Fairbanks Lady Grizzlies!

This past weekend we had the opportunity and pleasure to photograph the Fairbanks Lady Grizzlies for their new and upcoming calendar. What an awesome (and long!) day. The studio seemed to get really small with 15 or so women, bags and bags full of clothes, hair and makeup artists and one guy with a camera (me!). All the ladies were fantastic to photograph and the camera loved them. Of course, with everything happening so fast I didn’t get to spend much time with any one person but my experience with everyone was great.

I want to thank Ricky and Teresa Bertz and the Fairbanks Grizzlies for trusting me with such a responsibility. Most of all I want to thank the Fairbanks Lady Grizzlies for all their time, hard work and patience. I look forward to working with all of you again!

It’s hard to call these my favorites since we took so many amazing photos. We’ll call these my ‘initial’ favorites. Also, there was a bit of a ‘Pin up” theme to these. For now, enjoy the portraits and I look forward to any comments you may have :)

2009 Women’s Affair

We want to thank everyone for coming out to see us this past weekend at the Carlson Center. We really enjoy being at the Women’s Affair every year and getting to see so many people. This year we were able to show some brand new things. The ‘4 Ply Canvas Panel’ was a huge hit. Of course, we love it since they are portraits of Kamryn! Our new albums were also getting a lot of attention. Everyone must have enjoyed them because they are covered in finger prints! :)

I also received an amazing compliment yesterday. A man came up to me an introduced himself as someone who has a degree in fine arts. His definition of a great piece of art is something that catches your eye, draws you in and then rewards you while you take in all the details and aspects of the piece. I had a 30 inch canvas wrap of a baby on our wall. He said that piece gave him that reward. I replied with a very humble “Thank you very much”. Actually, I think I said that 3 or 4 times!

We look forward to seeing everyone again soon!

Paws for a Cause

Hello everyone. We have some really cool news. We are running our first annual ‘Paws for a Cause’ event this month! Beginning February 16 through March 13, 2009 we are offering $25.00 pet sessions. The cool part is that 10% of your order will be donated to the Fairbanks Animal Shelter Fund. This fund is used to support the efforts for all the sick and injured pets at the Animal Shelter. Tanja and I both used to be Veterinary Technicians and we know how much this effort will be appreciated. Check out the ads below and call us today for your appointment!

We look forward to hearing from you.

ps – We want to extend a special “Thank You” to ‘Diego’ and Katie Richards. ‘Diego’ was kind enough to volunteer his time and good looks to be photographed and used in our marketing. Our hat goes off to you both!

Happy New Year!

Hello and welcome to 2009! We hope everyone had a safe and Happy New Year. Things around here are going well and we are gearing up for another fantastic year. As always we are working on new things for 2009. Some new ideas, new programs, new props, more colors….you name it, we’re considering it :) We are also proud to announce that we were published in the December 2008 issue of ‘Studio Photography’. The editor caught wind of our Gift Registry Program and asked us to write an article for the marketing section of their magazine! Some images of the magazine are below but you can find the article on their website here .

Keep your eyes open for some great ideas, sales and promotions over the next few weeks. The best way to stay up to date with everything is to subscribe to our Blog. You can do that on the right hand side of this page under our photo!

We look forward to seeing everyone soon!

December News…..

Hey there! I know it’s been awhile since our last post. I could give you the “things have been busy” speech but you may be expecting that ;) Instead, I will tell you that we have been having a blast creating portraits for many happy people!

Tanja and I are planning to take some new portraits of Kamryn tomorrow so hopefully we will get some new stuff of her up here soon. She has changed so much since most of you have seen her last. We’re not sure what’s bigger…..her desire to not sleep or her attitude when she doesn’t get her way! The 3 of us are having fun figuring it out though :)

The photos below are from numerous portrait sessions (obviously!). I just wanted to share some new things with you while we are working through the season. There will certainly be more to follow before the end of the year. We wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season.

Yes, more High School Seniors!

Hello again! We hope everyone is enjoying our cool temperatures and recent snowfall :) We are almost ready for it actually. A few more windows need winterized (aka shrink wrap plastic) and I think we are done. We have taken new photos of our daughter recently that we can’t wait to share…and we will. I just need to find the time to get them up here.

On to bigger and better things. The change of the season and cooler weather has certainly not slowed down our High School Senior portrait efforts. We are just as busy as we were 2 months ago. With that said, Thank you all!

Below you will see some of our recent favorites from 2 different sessions. Both completely different people, both amazing in front of a camera, both fun, both full of energy and ideas and both certainly welcome back anytime!

On another note, our studio will be closed from October 17 – November 5. We will re-open and resume business November 6, 2008.

For now, enjoy the photos below, drive safe and stay warm!

We look forward to exceeding your expectations!

Meet Chad

Hello again! I wanted to share a few of my favorite images from a portrait session yesterday. Chad was fantastic to work with. Easy going, fun, didn’t mind the camera and an all around good guy. Thanks Chad – We hope to see you here again soon!

Enjoy the photos

Jeremy and Malissa

The day before this portrait session I called to ask Malissa if she wanted to do her engagement portraits at a location instead of the studio. The weather this spring has been really weird so we had no idea what to expect for the following day. She said, “Let’s go to Skiland!”. I said, “sounds great – There’s tons of stuff around there for portraits”. We met there the following evening. Feet of snow on the ground and inches of mud where the snow had melted. Ok, we can deal with that. When we moved over to the cliff/ledge where we started it felt like hurricane winds whipping past! Of course with the temperatures it would have been an arctic hurricane but you get the idea :) I was using an off camera light on a lightstand and weighted with sandbags. Within the first 10 shots it was blown over and broken. No big deal. I love natural light anyway! It sounds like a rough day huh? Well, it wasn’t. We actually had a good time. Laughing and joking around. Jeremy and Malissa are obviously in love and they made it easy to capture their emotion. I can’t wait for the wedding! Enjoy the photos and I look forward to your comments!

Our latest favorites

Hey there! I don’t want to jinks us but I think Spring is here! After a few unexpected snow falls the past few weeks we thought warm weather was never coming. We can finally see the ground! Between studio work and wanting to be outside I had to force myself to sit behind the computer and post a new Blog.

This past Friday we had the pleasure of photographing the annual Father Daughter Ball put on by the local Armed Forces YMCA. We were there to do couples portraits of everyone attending and did we ever! 91 couples in 2.5 hours. It was a whirlwind for us but everyone seemed to have a great time. It was really nice to see so many men in uniform with their little princess on their arm for a night of fun. The Armed Forces YMCA did a fantastic job coordinating and running the whole night. To give you a better idea of what we do take a look…..

On to more recent studio things….

A few of our most recent maternity portraits (that I just love!) are below. This was a really fun session with a great couple. We can’t wait for the baby to be born so we can have them back here :)

Believe it or not this was taken a few weeks ago here at the studio. The first few times we get outside each year seems to always be with kids.

This little guy is a true ham! I think he loves the camera. He is more reserved with his smiles but always seems to enjoy his time here.

I appreciate any thoughts or comments you have about these or any images on our Blog. Thanks for taking the time to visit!

Father-n-Daughter

Back by popular demand. We receive constant requests for more photos of our daughter Kamryn. We were waiting until she was able to sit up on her own but with all the requests we felt the need to capture something sooner. Now, I know what you’re thinking……where’s Tanja? Well, she is the mastermind behind the camera! I promise the next set of portraits will show her too :)

Enjoy the photos and feel free to let us know what you think!

Waiting……

Have I mentioned that I have the greatest job in the world? :) Day after day we get to meet fantastic people and create amazing images. I shot this photo session last week and just love these images. We have really been lucky to have so many women volunteer to model for us lately. I don’t think any of them have had any real time in front of a camera and based on their images you would never know!

I have been working on the details for a new project that I want to do this year. It’s too early to mention details but keep your ears open because I will have an announcement soon. I have had some inspiration recently and think you will all love this new idea!

As always we look forward to everyone’s comments. Positive or negative….they help us grow! Enjoy the photos!

Women’s Affair 2008

We had another fantastic experience at the Women’s Affair this past weekend. 2008 was the first time they had a Friday night opening with wine tasting. From what I could tell everyone had a great time! There was an incredible attendance on Saturday. I think the weather helped out a bit. Snow in April doesn’t leave many options for things to do. Sunday turned out to be well worth our while too. There wasn’t a single slow point for us. It was an amazing turn out all weekend. The best part for us is being able to meet so many new people. Hearing everyones comments about our work is certainly a bonus! Of course, in true “Chris Smith” fashion I was able to end the weekend with a flat tire on the way home from the show! We needed one more challenge to round out our weekend :)

I really appreciate all of our friends stopping by to say Hello. I have to admit though….I think Kamryn stole the show and was the biggest attraction for many of you! Rightfully so! I want to thank everyone for coming out and visiting us. We truly enjoy seeing and talking to everyone.

We also had a drawing this weekend to win a Free Portrait Session. We drew two names. One at the end of Saturday and one at the end of Sunday. The lucky winners this year are:

Lisa Flynn is Saturday’s winner

Karrina Wooderson is Sunday’s winner

Congratulations to you both and we look forward to seeing you here!

Thanks again!

We look forward to exceeding your expectations!
